File Tax Returns Before End of April or Face Sanctions – GRA Commissioner
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has urged individuals and businesses across the country to file their tax returns before the end of April or risk facing penalties and sanctions.
Speaking on the matter, the Commissioner of the GRA emphasized that filing annual tax returns is a legal obligation that must not be ignored. He explained that while many taxpayers focus mainly on paying taxes, submitting returns is equally important as it provides a detailed account of income, expenses, and tax liabilities.
According to the Commissioner, failure to comply with the directive could attract sanctions, including financial penalties and other enforcement measures as stipulated by law. He noted that these measures are necessary to ensure fairness and accountability within the tax system.
The GRA also highlighted efforts to simplify the filing process through its digital platforms, enabling taxpayers to submit their returns online with ease. Taxpayers experiencing challenges were encouraged to visit any GRA office for assistance.
The authority further reiterated that revenue generated from taxes plays a critical role in national development, funding essential public services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
While maintaining its firm stance on compliance, the GRA indicated that extensions may be considered in certain cases, provided taxpayers take proactive steps to regularize their filings within the approved period.
The Commissioner concluded by advising all eligible taxpayers to meet the April deadline and avoid unnecessary penalties, stressing that voluntary compliance remains the most efficient way to support the country’s economic growth.
