Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has unveiled the digital case management portal, official website, and call centre of the Office of the Tax Ombud as part of efforts to strengthen taxpayer protection and improve trust in the country’s tax system.
The new platforms are designed to provide taxpayers with easier access to support, allowing individuals and businesses to report complaints, seek assistance, and track the resolution of tax-related issues through a more transparent process.
Speaking at the unveiling in Abuja, Oyedele highlighted the importance of building a tax system based on fairness, accountability, and confidence between taxpayers and government institutions. The initiative is aimed at ensuring taxpayers’ concerns are properly addressed and that disputes are resolved efficiently.
The Office of the Tax Ombud serves as an independent avenue for taxpayers who are dissatisfied with how tax matters are handled after engaging the relevant tax authorities. The new digital tools are expected to improve accessibility, reduce delays, and promote better taxpayer experiences.
The launch forms part of Nigeria’s wider tax reform efforts focused on improving compliance, increasing transparency, and creating a more taxpayer-friendly environment.
