Abuja — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially inaugurated the newly constructed corporate headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), describing the project as a major milestone in the country’s ongoing fiscal and tax administration reforms.
The commissioning ceremony, held in Abuja on Tuesday, brought together top government officials, lawmakers, governors, and key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.
The newly unveiled structure, located in the Central Business District, is a 16-floor complex comprising three towers with the capacity to accommodate about 3,000 personnel, reflecting the government’s commitment to modernising revenue institutions.
Symbol of Reform
Speaking at the event, President Tinubu noted that the new headquarters represents more than just an infrastructure project, describing it as a symbol of integrity, efficiency, and the transformation of Nigeria’s revenue system.
The inauguration also marks the full transition from the former Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), following the enactment of the NRS Establishment Act signed by the president in 2025.
Officials said the reform is aimed at unifying revenue collection, improving tax compliance, and enhancing transparency across the nation’s fiscal framework.
High-Profile Attendance
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, among others.
Several state governors and members of the Federal Executive Council were also in attendance, underscoring the importance of the project to Nigeria’s economic agenda.
Strategic Importance
The NRS, under the leadership of its Executive Chairman Zacch Adedeji, is expected to leverage the new facility to enhance operational efficiency, deploy advanced technology, and improve taxpayer services.
Experts say the development aligns with the Tinubu administration’s broader objective of strengthening revenue generation, reducing reliance on borrowing, and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
With the inauguration of the new headquarters, the NRS is positioned to play a more central role in Nigeria’s fiscal stability, as the government intensifies efforts to deepen reforms and boost internally generated revenue.
