The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has called on Nigeria’s business community to support ongoing tax reforms, describing them as critical to strengthening economic growth and improving the overall business environment.
The appeal was made by ACCI President, Emeka Obegolu, in an Easter message delivered in Abuja. He urged entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate leaders to comply with the new tax laws, noting that adherence would significantly benefit the nation’s economic development.
According to Obegolu, the new tax framework has the potential to eliminate multiple taxation, enhance transparency, and create a more harmonised and business-friendly system. He emphasized that such reforms are essential for fostering investment and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
While acknowledging the current challenges faced by businesses—including economic uncertainties, infrastructure deficits, and regulatory pressures he noted that the reforms could help address some of these issues if properly implemented.
Highlighting the significance of Easter, Obegolu described the season as one of renewal, resilience, and new opportunities. He encouraged business leaders to embrace innovation, collaboration, and policy advocacy to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
He also stressed the importance of strong collaboration between the government and private sector, noting that the success of the tax reforms would depend on effective communication, coordination, and stakeholder engagement. In addition, he called for increased awareness and capacity-building initiatives, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to ensure smooth adoption of the new tax regime.
The ACCI reaffirmed its commitment to promoting policies that enhance ease of doing business and drive economic growth, while extending Easter greetings to Nigerians and members of the business community.
Overall, the message underscores the growing importance of tax reform in Nigeria’s economic agenda and the need for collective support to achieve its intended benefits.
