Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) plans to hold its second Tax Clinic in Abuja to engage the public ahead of the transition to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS).
The initiative is part of FIRS’s reform agenda to simplify tax administration, promote voluntary compliance, and strengthen public trust in the revenue system.
The first session of the Tax Clinic was held earlier in Lagos and drew participation from small business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals.
Themed “Tax Clinic for Tax Clarity: Transitioning into NRS,” the event is intended to address taxpayer concerns and better explain the changing tax framework.
Institutions expected to participate include the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Joint Tax Board (JTB), FCT-IRS, and various professional bodies.
The Abuja session is scheduled for October 28, 2025, to be held at the Lagbaja Hall, Nigerian Army Conference Centre & Suites (NACCAS), Asokoro, Abuja.
The clinic will feature panel discussions, service desks, and advisory sessions for registration, filing, dispute resolution, etc.
To widen reach, the event will also be livestreamed via Zoom and YouTube.
The reform moving from FIRS to NRS is part of a broader plan to modernize, harmonize, and improve Nigeria’s tax framework.
The transition from FIRS to NRS is rooted in the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025, which aims to streamline tax administration, expand the tax base, and integrate more digital processes.
Public engagement efforts like the Tax Clinic are crucial during reforms of this magnitude. They help reduce uncertainties, build trust, and improve taxpayer compliance if done transparently.
By involving multiple institutions (CAC, JTB, FCT-IRS, etc.), the initiative seeks to present a coordinated front rather than having fragmented messages from different revenue agencies.
The hybrid approach (in-person + live streaming) increases inclusivity, allowing participation from those who cannot attend physically
