The premises of Market Square (Sunday Foods) were sealed by Edo EIRS for non-payment of taxes amounting to ₦27,005,117.97.

The unpaid taxes cover the period 2018 to 2023 and relate to Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) and Withholding Tax liabilities.

The EIRS claims it carried out an audit, made the tax assessment, communicated it to Market Square, and since the company did not raise any objection, the assessment became final.

Because of non-payment, a court order was used to seal the premises.

The EIRS has said it is prepared to unseal the premises once full payment of the outstanding tax is confirmed.

The Enforcement demonstrated that Edo State’s resolve to enforce tax compliance, even for cases spanning multiple years.

The Legal process has fact that the assessment was not contested and became final suggests the matter followed statutory audit → assessment → notice/demand pattern.

The Business impact is being sealed affects the operations of Sunday Foods / Market Square, which will likely disrupt revenue and maybe harm reputation.

Being transparency is the amount and periods involved are specified publicly, giving clarity about what is owed and why.
