The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has lauded the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, for his instrumental role in improving Nigeria’s revenue generation. According to RMAFC Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Bello Shehu, without Adedeji’s efforts, the nation’s financial situation would have been considerably worse.

Dr. Shehu emphasized that the FIRS under Adedeji’s leadership has significantly enhanced tax collection, which has been pivotal in stabilizing the Federation Account. He noted that the increased revenue has enabled the government to address critical infrastructure needs and maintain essential public services.

The RMAFC has also been active in addressing issues related to revenue leakages. In a recent statement, Dr. Shehu highlighted that substantial government funds remain unremitted in commercial banks, urging for stricter enforcement and collaboration with agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to recover these funds and ensure proper allocation .

Furthermore, the RMAFC has raised concerns about the high cost of governance, attributing it to factors such as a bloated bureaucracy, overlapping ministries, and widespread corruption. Dr. Shehu commended President Bola Tinubu for adopting the Oronsanye Report, which aims to streamline government agencies and reduce administrative costs. He urged state governments to implement similar measures to alleviate the financial burden on the nation .

In summary, the RMAFC’s recognition of Adedeji’s contributions underscores the importance of effective leadership in revenue generation and the need for continued efforts to address financial inefficiencies within the government.
