The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has been lauded by staff members for prioritizing their welfare and safety, with recent celebrations highlighting his commitment.

On December 5, 2024, jubilant staff gathered at the FIRS headquarters in Abuja to express their gratitude for Adedeji’s initiatives. Employees carried placards with messages such as “We love you Zacch” and “You’re a man of the people,” singing and dancing in appreciation. A statement from Adedeji’s Technical Assistant (Print Media), Sikiru Akinola, noted that staff members praised Adedeji as a “staff welfare-minded administrator” .

Under Adedeji’s leadership, FIRS has introduced several welfare packages, including salary increments and improved working conditions. Staff members have reported unprecedented satisfaction, with some stating that this is the first time they can “sleep with their eyes closed” without complaints, a sentiment echoed during the agency’s one-year anniversary .

Adedeji’s approach reflects a broader national emphasis on occupational health and safety. In March 2025, the Nigerian government launched a five-year strategic plan to improve workplace safety and health standards, aiming to enhance productivity and employee well-being across various sectors .

The positive reception from FIRS staff underscores the effectiveness of leadership that values employee welfare and safety.
