Kano State Government has set an ambitious target of generating over N80 billion in internally generated revenue (IGR) in 2025, with quarterly projections exceeding N20 billion. To achieve this goal, the government plans to reform its tax administration system, ensuring efficiency in tax collection and compliance with tax regulations.

As part of this effort, the government will commence prosecuting tax defaulters in 2025. Dr. Zaid Abubakar, Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), emphasized that the reform aims to improve tax collection efficiency, not increase taxes.

The government's plan includes:

- *Streamlining Tax Collection*: Improving the efficiency of tax collection to reduce leakages and increase revenue.

- *Prosecuting Tax Defaulters*: Holding accountable those who evade taxes, to ensure fairness and compliance.

- *Enhancing Tax Administration*: Reforming the tax administration system to ensure transparency, accountability, and effectiveness.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reassured residents that the generated revenue will be invested in projects that positively impact their lives and the state's economy, focusing on sectors like water and sanitation, health, education, urban renewal, and agricultural development.
